from the very first version in 2009 until more than six years later hanseatics rich media – in close cooperation with the publisher SPIEGEL-Verlag – developed the apps for reading the german weekly news magazine DER SPIEGEL.
when i joined hanseatics in 2013 the SPIEGEL-Verlag extended to windows apps, so my first assignment was ui and ux of the windows phone 8 spiegel app, which came out later the same year. soon after we started an overall redesign of all SPIEGEL- apps. their first versions had had massive toolbars with dark gradient buttons – quite all right at the time, but we – at spiegel-verlag and hanseatics alike – wanted a more modern, bright and friendly version, equally consistent with the recent print redesign and throughout every app and all platforms. design and development took place in close cooperation with the people at the SPIEGEL-Verlag exchanging layouts and ideas.
everything you see here is from the 2.0+ area – which actually began at a time with ios 6 still in place and no material design to think of.
